World Church

The church's mission has many aspects, which belong together.

They include:

  • Telling the good news of Jesus
  • Calling people to faith and Christian discipleship
  • Caring for individual people and communities
  • Sharing for a just world
  • Being alongside the poor
  • Becoming friends with people of different cultures and faiths
  • Caring for the earth
  • Building partnerships with other Churches and other groups who share some of our mission aims
In different times and places different emphasis will be given to these various aspects of mission. We all share in God's mission in Britain. In other countries Methodist churches and ecumenical partners will approach these challenges differently because their context is different from ours. But the mission is one. The British Methodist Church is part of the World Church. We have gifts and graces to share with colleagues overseas and have much to learn and receive from Christian Churches in other places.

We achieve this by bringing the World Mission to the attention of the church family at Chepstow Methodist Church in the following ways:-

  • By encouraging church members to give to the Fund for World Mission in order to further the work in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, the Caribbean and Americas, or even in Europe, so that more may come to know the Lord
  • Supporting the World Church in our prayers
  • Supporting through the Mission Boxes and Self Denial envelopes
  • Fund raising for the Triangle Project in Timboni, Kenya-which involved building and furnishing a school and a self-support Health Clinic
  • Recently some individuals in the church sponsoring children in Kenya through secondary schools
  • Fund raising events with a Mission theme
  • Inviting a variety of World Mission speakers to our church

A Song for the World Church. (Rev T. Soderhjeim from Sweden)

Through the door to my life came the world,
And the world entered into my heart
In the midst of the world I could see
How the church was a budding tree.

Chorus
When the leaves burst out I want to be
In the shadow of that tree
I want to hear the bird song of charity
And I feel the rustling wind of hope.
On my lonesome way towards home
I was suddenly no more alone
There were brothers from far away
There were sisters that shared my way.

Through the door to my life came the Lord
And the Lord entered into my heart
In his presence I know I am called
To go with Him into all the world.

Prayer
Lord in your presence, fill us with your love that we may take your love to others today.
