The science

The crisis is more than climate change.

The Stockholm Resilience Centre have identified nine critical systems that are crucial to maintaining the earth in balance.  In a positive way of looking at sustainability, they worked with international scientists to identify “planetary boundaries”. These are limits for each critical system that if  respected will enable us to live in a sustainable way which could be viable for many generations.

If we transgress some of the boundaries we risk major environmental change. We have exceeded limits in three of the systems: climate change, biodiversity, and nitrogen and phosphorus inputs. But, and this is really important, there was a fourth one that had been exceeded: the ozone layer.

Through individual and global action we have made the changes necessary to come back within the “safe operating limit” for ozone in the stratosphere. This proves we are capable of taking the necessary action.

The science is clear. We need to act now. Its easy to feel that what I do as an individual won't make a great change to a global issue, but our discussions are showing us that isn't true!

We hope you'll join us!
