Junior Church

Our team of trained volunteers  run a thriving Junior Church programme in our church.

We believe that children are an important part of our church family.

We welcome all children from babies and toddlers to children up to 13 years of age.

Each Sunday morning, at the 10.30 service, children up to the age of 13 join in with the first ten minutes of the regular service.
They then leave to attend their classes with the volunteer teachers and return at the end to often share what lessons they have learned.

All classes follow the Scripture Union programme with some modification when required.  Children with a particular special need are well-catered for within our classes.  The majority of the children take part in the communion services with their parents being responsible at the communion table.
CRECHE - babies and toddlers up to the age of two and a half are very well catered for, through the help of a band of dedicated volunteers. Through the process of safeguarding within the church, we ensure that there are always at least two people on duty and these have CRB checks. Currently the church is updating this process.

BUBBLES - children up to the age of five years of age receive excellent guidance and teaching in this ever-expanding group. Currently it is our largest group of children within the church that demonstrate continuity and enthusiasm. They are led by another able band of volunteers who consistently give of their time and energy.

SPLASH AND XSTREAM - children up to the age of ten attend this group. There are two definite age groups but we combine and manage them as one. The class has often contained up to twelve children, but more recently the numbers in this group have fallen to five or six. The teachers and helpers again give of their time in planning, teaching and organising lessons that challenge and extend children’s knowledge of the Kingdom of God. The large space within the room, allows the children to partake in games, such as the use of a parachute and are used effectively to reinforce the stories studied from the Bible.

LAZERS - a group of ‘tweenagers’, from the age of ten to thirteen years are guided and led through some thought-provoking sessions.  In the past, this group also has seen larger numbers but contains some of the most consistent members of the Junior Church. There are dedicated, excellent teachers, who question and challenge this particular group in the understanding of being a Christian in this ever changing world. These are the children that can actively be asked to read passages in the main church and are often involved in drama, without much hesitation or planning. They are certainly growing within the caring church family.

Hilary Collins and I are a team and we would like to thank the many volunteers who make the above ‘happen. If you would like to help please get in touch.
